-Every year, over 3 billion pizzas are ordered. That's 9 per person, all ages and genders out of our estimated 330 million residents.

-Aside from cheese (usually mozzarella), the most popular ingredient is pepperoni, according to several polls, opens a new window.

Modern pizza originated in Naples, Italy around the mid-19th century. During the height of Italian Unification, the dish primarily featured three ingredients: tomato, cheese, and basil. The three ingredients of this Pizza Margherita supposedly represented the three colors of the Italian flag, and has remained iconic ever since.
