Happy April! This month we are highlighting books for Tasks #7 and #8. Both of these tasks are about #ownvoices books. What is #ownvoices? It is a book that is written by a member of the marginalized community that it depicts. In the book publishing community, an author from Central America, Mexico, or Oceania is marginalized because the book publishing world is very US/UK focused. With this in mind, a book by an author from the previously mentioned countries would count even if they are a member of a majority of the population of that nation.
Task #7: An #ownvoices Book set in Mexico or Central America. Central America consists of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
Task #8: An #ownvoices Book set in Oceania. What is Oceania? Oceania consists of Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wake Island, and Wallis and Futuna.
Happy Reading!
