The United Kingdom's Royal House of Windsor has for decades been a subject of worldwide fascination. Elizabeth's accession to the throne occurred on February 6, 1952, upon the death of her father, King George VI. Born on April 21, 1926, Elizabeth was the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of York. Her father ascended to the throne as King George VI in 1936 when she was ten years old.
