Learn How to Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Software

GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems, which is a system for creating, editing, analyzing, storing, and mapping geospatial data. Sound interesting? Want to know more?

The STPG GIS District and the St. Tammany Parish Library invite you to register for a 4-part workshop series for both teens aged 16 and up and adults. Members of the STPG GIS District will lead patrons in learning about GIS mapping, GIS careers and education paths, how to use ESRI software and develop web maps using GIS.

This program is brought to our parish through the GIS-Mapping Exchange — an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)-funded partnership between academics, geospatial data professionals, and public libraries.

The St. Tammany Parish Geographic Information Systems (GIS) District provides maps and graphics by compiling and analyzing geographic data from a variety of sources including census, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs and existing archive maps and data. In addition, the GIS department is responsible for continuously updating and verifying the GIS database to ensure the best possible data accuracy.

In partnership with the STPG GIS District, the GIS-Map Exchange program aligns seamlessly with the library system’s mission to cultivate discovery, creativity and learning by offering access to resources, programs and services for everyone in a welcoming and supportive environment.
