June is Audiobook Appreciation Month!
What are audiobooks? Audiobooks are recordings of a text being read. Audiobooks or "talking books" began in the 1930s with the American Foundation for the Blind and The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. It wasn't until the 1970s that the term "audiobook" began to be used.
Here at the library, we have many resources to let you enjoy audiobooks.
All of the branches of the St Tammany Parish Library have audiobooks on CDs. And these books can be fiction, non-fiction, or biography and can be checked out for 28 days.
The library also has 3 apps that allow you to check out audiobooks: OverDrive, CloudLibrary, and Hoopla.
OverDrive: Audiobooks can be checked out for up to 21 days. To access the Overdrive website or app you will need your library card.
CloudLibrary: Audiobooks can be checked out for up to 24 days and all you need is your library card and password to access the CloudLibrary website or app.
Hoopla: Audiobooks can be checked out for up to 21 days. To access the Hoopla website or app you will need to create a Hoopla account with your library card.
