Sgt. Leroy James was born in Washington Parish. He was drafted into the Army for World War II and became a Tech 4th Grade with the 350th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He worked as a radio operator using Morse code to send and receive messages. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines and received campaign medals for service in the Asiatic Pacific and good conduct, as well as World War II Victory and Philippine Liberation. He currently lives in Covington.
