Looking to make a positive difference in your community? Need volunteer service hours? Want to help shape how the library serves teens? Come volunteer at the library! There are two ways:
The St. Tammany Parish Library's Teen Department is looking for enthusiastic, motivated and creative teens to serve on the Teen Volunteer Council (TVC). Scheduled to meet for two hours at least twice a month, the Teen Volunteer Council is the perfect way to earn volunteer service hours by actively participating in library activities and becoming a liaison to your school and community.
To join, you must:
- Be in 8th – 12th grade.
- Live in St. Tammany Parish and have a library card.
- Be able to attend at least one meeting per month.
- Be willing to participate in TVC discussions and voice your opinions.
- Be willing to respect others.
- Fill out an application and hand it in by the first of the month before attending a meeting.
Teens can download an application on the library’s teen webpage or from any branch. Check the online event calendar for upcoming scheduled dates and branches. The November meetings for the TVC East will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, and again at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, at the Slidell Branch. The TVC West will meet at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, at the Madisonville Branch.
Can’t make the TVC commitment but still need service hours? The library will offer two drop-in Teen Volunteer In-Service days for teens from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 10, at the Madisonville Branch and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 17, at the Slidell Branch. Registration is required on the library website’s online event calendar.
