Spring has sprung and May will bring garden festivals to both sides of the parish!
Herbs Night Out: Garden to Food Truck Event at the Slidell Branch
Come eat, stroll through the gardens and enjoy garden speakers from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the Slidell Branch Pollinators Garden.
Topics to be presented include:
- Building a Worm Compost Condo with Harriet Buckner
- Make Herbal Pizzas with Linda Franzo
- Build a Fence board Bird House with Tom Cuccia
Food trucks, Old School Eats! and Semplice Pizza, will be on site with food for purchase and there will be a kids table where they can dig for tomatoes to make a pizza garden! Friends of the Slidell Library will be selling books and magazines to raise money for the library.
The event is sponsored by St. Tammany Master Gardeners and Friends of the Slidell Library. It is free and open to the public.
Buzz on Over to the Spring Garden Fest: The Importance of Pollinators
Learn how to attract all sorts of pollinators to your yard and garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Madisonville Branch.
Topics to be presented include:
- The GreenBridges Initiative with Linda Franzo
- Plants that Attract Pollinators with Amy Graham
- Herbs that Attract Pollinators with Gayle Miller
- Attracting Songbirds to our Yards with Jim Pellerin
Refreshments made from pollinated plants will be available to taste, there will be a children’s craft area, and Dogwood Hill Nursery will be selling plants. Every family that checks-in at the registration table will receive a pass for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum.
