St. Tammany Parish Library (STPL) is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month this September with the theme, “Create Your Adventure at the Library.” Signing up for a library card is the first step to creating your adventure, be it a road toward learning a photography or coding course or a journey into crafts and hobbies. A library card unlocks the full potential of your local library, in person and online.
All St. Tammany Parish residents, ages five and older, can apply for a library card. Minors (ages 5-17) require a parent to apply for a library card and choose their appropriate material level. Visit one of the 12 STPL branch locations or complete the application online at this link: sttammanylibrary.org/LibraryCard. Replacement card fees for lost or damaged cards will also be waived during Library Card Sign-Up Month.
As the Library helps you create your adventure, STPL also encourages community partnerships this month with Food for Fines. Library patrons have an opportunity to erase their outstanding fines by donating nonperishable food items. Nonperishable food will be donated to local food banks across the parish. For every item donated, $1 of fines will be waived. Canned and dry pet food will also be accepted and donated to the St. Tammany Parish Government (STPG) Department of Animal Services’s Pet Food Pantry. Many struggling pet owners have avoided surrendering their pets thanks to this community asset at the shelter. Nonperishable food items and pet food items will be accepted inside STPL branches during normal business hours for the entire month of September.
STPG Animal Services will also be offering all STPL library card holders $10 off non-waived adoption fees when they present their card when adopting during this month. Visit their webpage, stpgov.org/pets to view current adoptable pets in need of a forever home.
