The library invites middle school students, teens, educators and families to an “An Evening with Author Kwame Alexander” at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 18, at the Slidell Library. Alexander will speak about the love of reading and poetry, the craft of writing and having a positive attitude. The recommended audience is ages 8-14, but everyone will get something out of his dynamic presentation. Alexander will be available to sign books after the presentation. Books will be for sale at the event. The generosity of the Friends of the Slidell Library helped make this program possible.
Kwame Alexander received the 2015 Newbery Medal for his middle grade novel The Crossover. Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator and the New York Times bestselling author of 32 books. Kwame is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including The Coretta Scott King Author Honor, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Prize, three NAACP Image Award Nominations, the 2017 Inaugural Pat Conroy Legacy Award and he served as the 2018 NEA Read Across America Ambassador. Kwame’s belief in the power of poetry and literature to inspire, engage and empower young people is the guiding force behind the #AllBooksForAllKids initiative he created in partnership with Follett.
