Classes are in full swing at the St. Tammany Parish Library. We’ve got classes for everyone, from the beginner computer user to those who want to explore more advanced skills. Looking for a class but not sure which one to attend? You can find all of our offerings on our events calendar. Below, we’ve listed some of our newest classes and we’re hoping you’ll give them a try:
While Appy Hour is not new—in fact it’s one of our most popular programs—we’ve decided to add a new component: the option to learn about a database! Appy Hour Plus allows you to bring your specific questions about eBooks and databases to the Covington Branch Library. Whether you need help downloading an Overdrive book or you just want to find Consumer Reports through Masterfile Premier, you can bring your questions to Appy Hour Plus and have a reference librarian help you! Appy Hour Plus is currently only available at the Covington Branch, however, feel free to stop by any of our traditional Appy Hours which are held at various library branches throughout the Parish.
Get a brief orientation to the library in Spanish. Come learn how to get a library card, what types of resources are available, how long items can be checked out, what kinds of events and classes are available, and more.
Want a tour of all of our eBook products? Then look no further than eBook Open House. This program is an in-depth introduction to the library’s eMedia collection. Bring your own device or explore on laptops that will be provided as part of the class. Don’t need a full class? Only have a couple of questions? Then try Appy Hour instead!
Keyboard and Mouse Skill Practice
For beginning computer users, a full class can be very intimidating. It can be especially hard if you feel that your mouse skills are not up to snuff. At Keyboard and Mouse Skills Practice, a librarian will walk you through learning how to use a mouse and keyboard and provide hands-on practice so that you’ll feel more confident about using these skills. After the class, be sure to attend one of our introductory courses to show off your new skills!
Have you heard about podcasts but you don’t really know what they are? Then stop by the Slidell Branch to learn all about them! A reference librarian will teach you about different apps that can be used to access podcasts and how to listen to them. Feel free to bring your own device!
