October is Family History Month and what better way to celebrate than to look into your own family history. The library has several online resources to help you find out more about your family:
- Ancestry Library Edition – One of our most popular genealogy resources, Ancestry Library Edition contains access to thousands of databases of genealogical and historical information. The information includes access to vital, military, census, and immigration records. This resources is only accessible inside of a library branch.
- Heritage Quest Online – Created by the same company that created Ancestry.com, this resource contains the entire U.S. Federal Census, PERSI™, Freedman's Bank Records, Revolutionary War Pension Records, and other collections of genealogical records.
- AmericanAncestors.org – This database was developed by the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS). It contains over 1.4 billion records, including the largest collection of U.S. Catholic records online and an extensive collection of early American genealogical records. This resource can only be used in the Covington and Slidell Branches.
Aside from these resources, we also have a dedicated genealogy collection at the Covington Branch Library. Our genealogy librarian, Germaine Butler, is available to assist any visitor with their research questions. We also provide or sponsor cool genealogy events, such as the upcoming Genealogy Open House. Feel free to stop by your nearest branch to learn how you can access any of these resources or events!
